Google Releases new State Of The Art Gemini Model

Google has introduced a preview of Gemini 2.5 Pro, its most advanced AI model yet, ahead of a full release later this month. The updated model builds on the version presented at Google I/O in May and brings a series of improvements in speed, reasoning, and creativity. Gemini 2.5 Pro will soon become the default model powering Google's developer tools and enterprise offerings, signaling a step forward in its AI ecosystem.

In performance benchmarks, Gemini 2.5 Pro has gained 24 Elo points on the LMArena leaderboard, now holding the top spot with a score of 1470. It has also improved by 35 Elo points on WebDevArena, rising to 1443. These increases reflect stronger performance in tasks involving programming, reasoning, and problem-solving. The model now leads on coding challenges such as Aider Polyglot and performs exceptionally on rigorous tests like GPQA and Humanity’s Last Exam, which evaluate advanced knowledge and reasoning capabilities.

Google also addressed previous feedback by refining the model’s formatting, output style, and creative range. Gemini 2.5 Pro now produces more articulate and expressive responses while maintaining technical precision. Developers can access the model today through the Gemini API in Google AI Studio and Vertex AI, where they can experiment with features like "thinking budgets" to balance performance and resource use. It's also live in the Gemini mobile app.

In a recent independent study published on arXiv, Gemini 2.5 Pro was evaluated alongside leading models such as Claude 3.5 Sonnet and GPT-4o. Human educators acting as judges favored Gemini 2.5 Pro in over 73% of direct comparisons, particularly for learning and instructional tasks, solidifying its position as one of the most capable AI systems for education and complex reasoning.

With this preview, Google is signaling its ambition to not just compete but lead in AI development across domains—from coding and creative writing to advanced problem solving and education. The full rollout of Gemini 2.5 Pro is expected in the coming weeks.
